Meet Jessica Brock
Today, I want to introduce you to my friend, Jess Brock. Jess has been a part of our Clayton King Ministries family for over 10 years. She is currently a stay at home mom of two and is married to the love of her life. She enjoys yoga, traveling, and gathering people around her table. If you're in the toddler stage of life, you know that mom life can feel slightly stifling. It's easy to feel lost behind your kids' identity and wonder if Jesus still has a future for you. What was your greatest take away from this chapter?
This chapter in ILYM made me rethink how trust relates to MY future. I believe God is continually building our trust in Him as well challenging us to ask ourselves how much we trust him; especially with our futures. Trust is built by life experiences, the unknown, and seasons of waiting or delay.

What did you learn about the character of God in this chapter?
Throughout this entire book and especially this chapter on My Future I have been reminded of the Lord’s faithfulness. He remains faithful to us when we are not to him, specifically with our future.
1 Thessalonians 5:34 says, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” If we are having a hard believing that God is trustworthy, we have to base our belief in his character in the word of God instead of our insecurities or previous experiences. If I Thessalonians 5:34 says he's faithful, and he will do it, then he will! This was challenging for me. We base our trust in his FUTURE FAITHFULNESS by remembering his PAST PROVISIONS. We know his promises to be true in Scripture and in our own lives so far, so we must trust Him with our future as well.
What did you learn about your character?
When I don’t trust, I try to control. Its funny how often I try to control my future, which is proof I am not trusting God. When I feel like the Lord has abandoned me, I step in to try to make things happen. This is when I get into a mess. It's easy to trust until God's plan is no longer our plan. Surrendering my plan is a sure sign I've decided to trust.
Right now, I'm a stay at home mom, but my kids are getting older and starting school. My identity as a “stay at home mom” is changing, and so I find myself wrestling with the Lord with about my future. I don't know what my new “job” will look like, but I know the Lord has proven himself faithful in seasons like this in the past. I also know he has called me to be faithful with the present and not fret about the future. Since his faithfulness has never let me down, I'm currently surrendering this part of my future to him.
How do you think you can practically apply what you've learned to your life / world?
So much of our trusting God with our future relies on how we remember God in our past. I don't want to be like the Israelites when they didn't have faith to enter the promised land, forgetting all the ways that the Lord had been faithful, unable to trust him with their future. Therefore, I have to consistently fight my desire to take over and rest in the one who is truly in control. I want to be faithful in the small things, ministering where I am, digging deep wells, and living expectant that the Lord will fill them. If I want to see the Lord's faithfulness, I have to step out in faith. I will never fully know the extent of his faithfulness until I actively TRUST him.
